Making Waves: A Mental Health Conference

  • Japanese American National Museum (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This day-long conference will offer a safe space for the API community to address, examine, and understand mental health in its various forms. Conference plenaries will be interspersed with workshops and small group discussions that focus on specific topics related to mental health.

The conversation around mental health within the API community is one that has been and continues to be highly stigmatized due to several external and internal factors. The goal of this conference will be to shed a positive light on these topics and allow for a space where open conversations about mental health can be held.

Lunch will be provided.

Conference topics will include:
- Intergenerational Mental Health
- Understanding Student Stress
- How to Access Mental Health Care
- Mental Health for the Japanese Speaking Community
- Family Dynamics
- Senior Mental Health Care
- Mental Health through Poetry
- Navigating Relationships
- and much more!

Price: $15 General Admission, $12 JANM Members/Students

CTxFSN: Mental Health Pop-Up
to Mar 2

CTxFSN: Mental Health Pop-Up

341 FSN is a collaborative and experimental space designed to explore community control and self-determination in Little Tokyo and First Street North. The space is owned and operated by Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC), whose mission is to “provide a comprehensive array of social welfare and community development services to assist low income individuals and other persons in need, contribute to community revitalization and cultural preservation in Little Tokyo.” Changing Tides is a initiative of LTSC committed to de-stigmatizing mental health within the Asian American community. Throughout their less-than-a-year span of existence, they have focused much of their time on emphasizing the importance of art as a means of self-expression, catharsis, and, ultimately, engaging the community in open discussions about mental illness.

During the month of February, LTSC, working with the Japanese American National Museum, will support 341 FSN’s experimental community storefront with Changing Tides. Changing Tides will be creating a Mental Health Pop-Up exhibit that will feature art, created by Nikkei artists, that reflects or was inspired by mental health.

Admission to the pop-up is free!
