Suicide Prevention Initiative
in Collaboration with QPR Institute
CT (Changing Tides) Anchor responds to the current mental health crisis, particularly among AAPI young adults. With suicide reported as the fourth-leading cause of death among young people aged 15-29* and the leading cause of death specifically among Asian American young people aged 15-24**, CT Anchor aims to provide accessible and approachable life-saving suicide prevention training via the nationally-recognized QPR Institute.
What is CT Anchor?
CT Anchor is a Changing Tides initiative providing free*, comprehensive, accessible, and practical suicide prevention training via the QPR Institute. The goal of this initiative is to inform and educate the community about suicide prevention to address the current mental health crisis, particularly among AAPI young people.
It’s common for people experiencing suicidal thoughts to express their distress to people in their everyday life. QPR is an essential training that helps you become better prepared to have conversations surrounding suicide and offer support to those in crisis. Standing for Question, Persuade, and Refer, the nationally-recognized QPR certification training teaches people without professional mental health backgrounds to recognize signs that someone may be considering suicide, establish a supportive dialogue, and guide the person to seek professional help. QPR uses three simple steps that anyone can use to help save a life, making it ideal for everyday people in our community (e.g., parents, friends, neighbors, students, teachers, coaches, etc.).
A free, one-time, 1-2 hour training covering the 3 steps of QPR, available nationwide via live video call and in-person throughout LA and Orange Counties
Suicide Prevention Resources is provided to participants.
Participants will become certified QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeepers for 3 years.
*While the cost of your training is covered by Changing Tides, a program of Little Tokyo Service Center, we require a $25 refundable deposit to reserve your training. A full refund will be issued upon completion of your scheduled training. QPR trainers will review training requests and follow-up within one-week for scheduling.
