Candle Making Workshop

On December 15, 2018, Changing Tides held a Holiday Candle-Making Workshop at Christ Episcopal Church in Redondo Beach for youth ages 14-24. Led by Bette Morinaka (who you might remember as the woman behind all the lovely desserts at our May 2018 Changing Tides event!), the CT Crew and 14 participants came together for an evening of de-stressing from the holidays. With careful, but easy-flowing instruction, Bette inspired us to channel our creativity and to have fun with our designs. Whether it was a gift for a loved one or for ourselves, we all left that night with a personalized candle with decorative lids, jars, and tags--some candles even had seashells in them! Though this event was not centered around mental health, our aim was to hold space for a community get-together to unwind from the holiday season.

We owe a huge thanks to Christ Episcopal Church in Redondo Beach, LTSC, the Morinaka Family, photographer Matthew Yonemura, and of course, our participants who, once again, showed up to tackle the mental health stigma from yet another realm of self-care. We are excited for what 2019 has in store for us, and we cannot wait to experience, share, and grow with all of you.
